Moulages are mapping of body parts or figures which were used in dermatology since the end of the eighteens century to immortalize different disease's skin symptoms.
Ages ago they were used for documentary and educational purposes, now they have medical historical and museological importance, but they appear rarely in publications. Now digital photography has taken over their place in visual archives. The most famous moulage-making workshop in Europe existed in the Saint Louis Hospital in Paris where, under Charles Lailler's leadership, Jules Baretta's works had been made and from where whole Europe came to know the moulages. Making wax figures required not only professional skills but the manufacturers were often masters of sculptural arts. The collection of Paris was also observed by Árpád Skutta, who was the father of hungarian moulage-production, and his and his sculptor colleague's works can be seen in the collection of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Debrecen.
